Parliament has this afternoon paid tribute to the late minister for industry, Dr. James Mutende, with many legislators describing him as the most educated minister in the house.

The late Mutende, also husband to hon. Lydia Wanyoto died on Saturday morning in his sleep at their home in makindye Kampala.

During today’s special session, leader of opposition in parliament Wafula Oggutu said the fallen minister played a role in revival of the Bugisu Cooperative Union. "He was the most educated minister in this Parliament" Oguttu added.

The Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda presented the findings of the post-mortem which showed that his lungs and liver had problems.

Hon. Khiddu Makubuya says that there were reports that the late Dr Mutende got death threats from his political opponents. "Why would people in the same party issue death threats to others" Hon. Makubuya. Hon. Khiddu Makubuya urges Members to speak the same language of reconciliation & peace even after the funeral of Dr Mutende.

The session is being chaired by speaker Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga who said it was unfortunate that the house had convened in a short space of time to pay tribute to another colleague. Dr. James Mutende’s death comes hot on the heels of the burial of Interior minister, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima.
