Supreme Court accepts MUK dons to join Mbabazi petition, rejects Civil society

  • Supreme Court considers Muk dons in Mbabazi petition

The Supreme Court has allowed Makerere University law lecturers to join the presidential petition and rejected Civil Society groups in a ruling Monday morning.
Nine Makerere University lecturers and civil groups applied last week to join the petition as friends of court (Amicus Curiae).
Supreme Court judge, Justice Lilian Tibatemwa read out : "Court concludes that public interest outweighs objections of respondents to participation of applicants as amicus."
"We are satisfied that the applicants' brief raises novel issues and their participation would aid the court," Tibatemwa read out.
Justice Sarah Arach Amoko on the second applicant, read out: "CSO's did not meet criteria for joining petition as friends of court."
Justice Amoko stated: "Unlike in application by Prof. Oloka - Onyango and others, CSOs didn't attach intended points they would address."
