Police explain combing Red Pepper offices, say they will remain closed 'as long as it is necessary'

Police have moved in to close the gates of daily tabloid Red Pepper after it published a story that 'M7 plotting to overthrow Kagame-Rwanda and maintain they will 'remain so as long as it is necessary'.

The said story appeared in the tabloid's Sunday edition the Sunday Pepper.

Police national spokesman Emilian Kayima released a statement Monday evening confirming investigations and cordoning off of the newspaper premises.

Kayima stated: "Following the publication of a false story by the Red Pepper in their November 20th 2017 edition titled, "M7 PLOTTING TO OVER KAGAME-RWANDA", the Uganda Police, this morning, initiated investigations into the serious statements and innuations in that story that have grave implications on national security and stability."

He noted: "Police has this evening entered the premises of the Red Pepper for the purpose of conducting a search, and to carry out necessary investigations.

Kayima went on: "The Red Pepper premises, since they are a scene of crime, have been cordoned off to facilitate these investigations, and will remain so as long as it is necessary."
