Mike Mutebi saw his young team overcome Egypt’s most successful team in a well-balanced display at Mandela National Stadium, Tuesday afternoon and then alert his Ugandan colleagues that the mentality of losing before playing Magreb teams is now going away.
Mutebi’s team made good use of the second half of the game to blast Egyptian champions Al Ahly with goals from Sadam Juma and captain Timothy Awany.
A bewildered Mutebi hailed his side after the big win after escaping an early raid when Charles Lukwago stood tall between the sticks to thwart away a penalty opportunity availed to the visitors.
He roared: “That mentality of losing before playing Magreb teams is now going away. It is all about believing and having educated players.It gives me hope that the sky is the limit for this young team.”
The KCCA FC tactician said: “I have always said we respect Al Ahly but we have a very ambitious team that displayed very tactical discipline.”
“In the first half we were jittery but second half we tested ourselves against a very good team.”
Mutebi hailed: “But today we displayed very good tactical discipline in the second half after some school boy mistakes in the first half.”
He regretted: “We should have scored more in the second half and in the end we have gauged ourselves against the very best. Today I’m very satisfied.”
