KCCA FC 2-0 Al Ahly
Sadam Juma swept home a smashing volley to open the flood gates for KCCA as he put in a match-winning performance at the heart of the midfield before Timothy Awany sealed the day late with Charles Lukwago having frustrated Egyptian champions Al Ahly an early goal from penalty spot.
Sadam Juma has been nursing injury leaving KCCA’s midfield porous but his return has rejuvenated the Lugogo based outfit both in the league and Africa.
The Kampala outfit had suffered a loss in their first outing away in Gaborone, Botswana when they failed to respond the home side Township Rollers’ one goal.
Al Ahly, eight time winners of the competition, appeared to have started the game on a high pressing deep into Mike Mutebi’s own half. The visitors consistent raids into KCCA FC’s box yielded a penalty for them.
Walid Said stood up to take the penalty. The yellows goalie Lukwago stood between the sticks and went the right way to block Said’s shot.
The miss appeared to have slowed down the visitors with KCCA FC taking charge of the game as it went into half time.
Second half saw the Ugandan side turn the tide and take the Egyptian outfit head on. Mutebi did the magic by pulling off playmaker Jackson for Lawrence Bukenya. This allowed Julius Sadam Juma and the two teenage wingers Julius Poloto and Allan Okello to press high up the pitch.
Al Ahly retreated with KCCA FC’s pressing game tactic. The home team were rewarded with nice interplay between Shaban Muhammad, Okello and Sadam which allowed the latter in a free space sweep the ball in the back of the net, leaving Ahmed Adel flat footed in the 73rd minute of play.
The home team continued to press and the resultant pressure saw Al Ahly concede a penalty after Poloto was brought down in the box.
Team captain Timothy Awany did not make a mistake sending the ball in the top right corner to give KCCA all three points.
