President Yoweri Museveni has pumped cash and handed a truck to SACCOS in Rukunjiri in a tour of the district on Friday.

President Museveni was accompanied to the western district by former minister of health Jim Muhwezi and Mondo Kagonyera.

The President confirmed the package: “Whereas our campaign today started in Nyakagyeme Sub-county, where I donated a truck and Shs110m to five Saccos, the initiative will spread to the entire Rukungiri district in due course. Thank you.”

Here below is President Museveni’s statement on his tour to Rukunjiri District.

Was in Rukungiri District to popularize our fight against poverty while increasing household income. After making several stop-overs in Rukungiri Municipality, I addressed a rally at Nyakagyeme Sub-county.

In the fight against household poverty, the National Resistance Movement leadership needs to borrow a leaf from our NRA/M methods of work during the liberation war, where we directly engaged the peasants to liberate the country.

The poverty fight must be at the grassroots level. NRM leaders must get closer to the people especially the youth and understand their way of life and act as change agents. Failure to do this has seen many youth get lured into the opposition who feed them on lies.

For our people in rural areas to overcome poverty, they should turn to commercial profit-oriented agriculture as opposed to subsistence agriculture and avoid land fragmentation.

Whereas our campaign today started in Nyakagyeme Sub-county, where I donated a truck and Shs110m to five Saccos, the initiative will spread to the entire Rukungiri district in due course. Thank you.
