10-time record winners, Kibuli SS have been drawn in group of death at the 25th Copa Coca Cola school championships kicking off today at Mbarara High School located in Mbarara district, western Uganda.
Kibuli who failed to make cut in Kampala mini tournament, were taken on wild card after series of appeals. Kampala changed qualifying format where by four teams qualify for Copa on points basis after versing each other.
Kibuli finished 5th behind Old Kampala, Kawempe Muslim, Kololo SS, Lubiri SS and lodged an appeal that Kololo SS had fielded ineligible player but failed to produce evidence. During Kampala district finals at Namboole, Kibuli SS disrupted games which resulted into ban of their 2 officials.
With games kicking off today, Kibuli SS will have to battle against Wakiso giants and 2009 winners Buddo SS and last year’s semifinalists Nakaseke International in group E.
Other teams in the group include Rwakasinga CHE Amuria SS, Sebei College and Iganga Town View Secondary School.
Defending champions Jinja Secondary School are placed in group B alongside Masaka SS, Lubiri SS from Kampala, Kamwenge SS, Welden SS, Green Valley from Mukono and Bishop Negri.
Giants St. Mary’s Kitende were placed in group F alongside St. Edwards, Mentor SS, Hill View SS, Nyakibale SS and Kawempe Muslim.
The tournament will last for two weeks.
