After getting a lot of pressure from Ugandans on social media to release Kyadondo East MP Bobi Wine, the president of Uganda Sevo has responded to a section of Ugandans who think he has the powers to release the incarcerated MP.

According to the statement released by the president’s press team on Facebook, the constitution doesn’t give him power to release people from jail.

The president further mentions the government institutions who the law mandates to release people who have been convicted by the state. ’’On the issue of releasing Bobi Wine and the others, the President of Uganda does not have such powers. Once somebody is arrested, charged and remanded, it is only two authorities who can release such people in any way: the Courts or the DPP withdrawing charges if the evidence is not enough. Let us therefore, wait for the Courts and see what they decide’’ part of the president’s statement read
