Officials in disaster prone district of Bududa have so far confirmed 38 bodies unearthed from muddy area.

Disaster Preparedness ministry revealed a river burst its banks at about 2:30pm local time following a downpour leading to the catastrophic landslide up the mountain.

Authorities in the district are worried about the situation which they say is getting out of hand.

Official who did not want to be named narrated: “It is still very soggy and, it is also difficult to work in the night minus light. There has been no relief extended to these people so far. The truck that was supposed to bring food hasn’t yet arrived.”

President Yoweri Museveni away in London on the tragic news, said: “I have received the sad news of landslides wreaking havoc in Bududa District, killing a yet-to-specified number of residents.”

The President confirmed: “The government has dispatched rescue teams to the affected areas. I urge residents to cooperate with authorities to mitigate possible further danger.”
