Former Bank of Uganda Executive Director in Charge of Supervision Justine Bagyenda risks arrest if she does not appear before Parliament’s committee on Commissions Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) on Tuesday next week.

This comes after Bagyenda today failed to turn up before the committee that is probing the criteria used by Bank of Uganda to close the seven defunct banks, following a special audit by the Auditor General.

Bagyenda and Benedict Ssekabira, the director of Financial Markets Development Coordination, were to present evidence of reports on how the value of assets of three closed commercial banks assessed so far, was reduced from Shs117b to Shs98b after the Central Bank took over the liquidation.

Bagyenda, however, sent a notice to the committee that she had traveled abroad on a scheduled trip, and was unable to make the commitment for cross-examination.

The development angered COSASE Chairman Abdu Katuntu who demanded that Bagyenda must appear. We captured submissions of MPs ;Francis Mwijukye ,Moses Kasibante ,Beatrice Anywar, Abraham Byandala and Anita Among ;

Bank of Uganda governor, Tumusiime Emmanuel Mutebile says he was not aware of Bagyenda’s travel, explaining that he only received a copy of his letter at around 10:15am this morning;
