Police has warned motorists and pedestrians who use road and traffic light junctions to remain cautious and alert at all times in a bid to stave off attacks from opportunistic robbers and thugs.

This warning comes in the wake of an increase in attacks and thefts targeting motorists and pedestrians at road junctions and traffic light stops.

On Saturday last week, Police arrested at least 18 suspects at various spots for allegedly attacking and stealing from drivers at traffic lights and junctions in the city.

According to police, the suspects were rounded up in an operation , following an attack on a driver at Lugogo by pass traffic lights on Saturday night.

In the new wave of crime, the attackers forcefully use stones and metal bars to break into cars and beat up drivers before making away with their valuables.

Addressing the press at the Central Police Station in Kampala, Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga , advised drivers to always raise their windscreens and also avoid driving alone at late hours of the night. He cited Lugogo traffic lights, Old Portbell Road railway crossing, Banda Face Technology Junction, Nankulabye traffic lights and Wandegeya traffic lights as some of the major black spots.

Enanga said that despite the arrest of some suspects, police is retrieving camera footage to establish the culprits.

He said that 8 of the suspects are held at Kiira road police, 5 at  Jinja road and 1 at Wandegeya police.
