KCCA FC 1-1 Vipers SC

I finally stepped out of my comfort zone on a sweltering Thursday afternoon to catch top of the table clash between home team KCCA FC and defending champions VIPERS SPORTS CLUB.
I was utterly disappointed right from the gate how the whole ticketing system was handled. Somebody could have been pushed down and stepped on and killed. You had to muscle your way to the sales point. Many must have had their tales to tell.
Phones, watches and a few things must have made their way away from their pockets and hands without their knowledge. Then get in and the pitch just can not swallow up the numbers that were let in. Many struggled to catch the action from the pitch. The heights let down many.
This wasn’t the rosy picture that was painted by the club’s smart PR department before this fixture. The atmosphere was brilliant with fans pouring in their thousands for this affair.
Both teams put in a spirited fight and entertained. But they were let down by the pathetic conditions. Not characteristic of such a swagger club.
As a club under the management of the wealthy Kampala Capital City Authority – KCCA, appalling standing and sitting standards fall short of the requirements to handle such a game of yesterday’s might. Many including yours here had an afternoon to lament about.
Some clever chaps climbed trees, containers and the buildings nearby to catch the action. It was a painful experience.
The football on the pitch was thrilling and could have helped erase the filth from outside of the playing arena.
You had the irritating smoke from the guys roasting mochomo blowing towards the fans and on to the pitch.
Not even the guys at the gate could help ask the guy roasting the mochomo to change the positioning of his facilities. Fans had to put up with the unease.
Then nobody to guide fans to the standby toilets. Several were peeing on the walls. FUFA and KCCA FC officials can’t see the filth because they take refuge in the VIP wing.
And you are sure many deployed to help out disengage and switch to the gate where they can shift in for hand outs.
The club have a lot of work to do if they are to retain new football fans at their stadium. A massive club as theirs should have a better home to house all who pay heavily to watch the teams play.
Yesterday’s atmosphere wasn’t worth their asking gate price. KCCA FC need to push for Nakivubo Stadium and leave Lugogo for training.
