Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate Johnson Noowe has won the Gulu University Guild Presidential race.
Noowe defeated other four candidates in the highly competitive race. He emerged winner after getting 1400 votes followed by National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s Oyet Samuel Agwan with 800 votes and in the third place was People Power Pressure Group’s candidate Imuran Ntambazi who walked away with 300 votes , Alexander Okidi, the Democratic Party (DP) leaning candidate followed with 150 votes whereas Etyaka Emmanuel came last with 105 votes.
Noowe Johnson was declared winner on Saturday night by the Gulu University students Electoral commission returning officer. He is succeeding Joseph Mbaziira the outgoing Guild President who also subscribes to FDC.
This is the first guild race People Power has so far lost in the ongoing Universities elections in country.
So far Julius Katerega, Jonathan Tundulu and Bryon Luswata have won Makerere University, Kyambogo University and Nkumba University guild elections respectively.
Meanwhile, Police are holding Gulu University returning officer Edmond Okello over allegations of interfering with the guild presidential elections. Okello was picked on Saturday evening shortly after announcing Mr Johnson Nowe as the winner of the hotly contested guild elections held on Saturday.
