With just 2 years into her Swangz contract, Vinka has landed herself the big one. This was confirmed by a post on Swangz Avenue’s page confirming that their artist has signed for Sony.

Vinka first came to the lime light when she was converted from artist manager to singer by her management.. she enjoyed instant success with several hits including Malaika, over dose, chips na ketchup, love doctor and many more. She quickly became one of the most booked artists in the country.

At the beginning of the year, she announced that she’d be releasing a song and video every first day of the month for 12 months and she has lived up to that so far. Her sixth video is scheduled for June 1st. Whether this new development will affect this is yet to be seen.

Vinka joins other African stars signed to the label like Wiz Kid and Davido. And recently another Nigerian star Tiwa Savage got herself a similar deal with Sony’s rival Universal Music. Could this be Sony’s move to counter Universal’s Tiwa signing??
Tiwa was signed to Sony before as a song writer and those contacts propelled her to continental stardom.

Vinka enjoying her moment

Unlike the previous contracts with other artists that Sony signed, Vinka will retain her management, Swangz Avenue. From a source at Swangz, this was a stumbling block between Swangz, the artist and Sony and it delayed the deal for about 2 months. They eventually all agreed to let Swangz work with Sony on the artist strategy since they understand the artist better and the market.

Is this Sony’s move to create another African superstar? At least It’s a good start for Ugandan music.
