Unidentified thugs have shot dead two employees of Cheap General Hardware Store in Nansana municipality, Wakiso district and made off with unspecified amount of money.

While some witness account put the money at Shs 200 million, a police statement said they had not verified the amount of money stolen.

The thugs struck this afternoon while riding on four motorcycles with firearms.

According to eye witnesses, the masked thugs first cordoned off the Hardware shop before opening fire at employees who were offloading cement from a truck killing the manager and another person on spot.

“I was having lunch in a near by restaurant when the five armed robbers on motor bikes arrived in broad day light and attempted to rob the store (Cheap General Hardware). The store’s manager was shot on the spot. They proceeded to randomly shot at whoever was nearby to cause chaos and confusion. So far three people have been confirmed dead and several injured,” eye witness said.

The police identified the dead as Aruho Frank and Atuhura Jimmy, both employees of the hardware shop.

Unverified reports also indicate that two others died thereafter.

A witness, who only identified himself as Mutesasira, says the thugs stormed from an area without security cameras to avoid being detected.

Police have cordoned off the hardware to secure the scene of crime.

Locals say that Police responded almost after an hour despite the Nansana Police Post being about forty meters away from the scene.
