A team of Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) and police in custody six people accused of swindling primary schools with fake examination papers.
While addressing journalists at the UNEB offices in Ntinda on Sunday, Dan N Odongo, the UNEB Executive Secretary, said the six were arrested before any examination material could be transported to the field.
Odongo says the suspects were collecting large sums of money ranging from Shs400,000 to Shs10m from various schools with the assurance they were genuine Uneb examinations.
James Turyatemba, the officer-in-charge of national examinations, said the suspects were arrested over the weekend in Namungoona, Namugongo, Mukono, Nsangi, Wakiso and Masaka areas.
The suspects include head-teachers, teachers, and officials in the education sector.
Polly Namaye, the deputy police spokesperson, said the arrest brings to 10 the number of those caught for allegedly engaging in exam malpractice.
Odongo said by the time of the arrest this weekend, they had not released any PLE examination paper to the field.
Odongo assured the public that examinations are still safe and have not leaked, he also advised the public to avoid being cheated in such schemes.
