Daily Monitor popular photojournalist Alex Esagala has issued a notice of intention to sue The New Vision Printing and Publishing co. ltd for damages over the great risk he took in taking a particular photo.

Through his lawyers of Kaggwa & Kaggwa Advocates, Esagala claims that his photograph appeared in the Bukedde newspaper on November 25, 2019, without his consent.

Esagala took the award-winning photo on April 16, 2018, and Bukedde used it in one of their stories published on Monday, November 25, 2019.

Lawyers representing the popular photojournalist have instructed The New Vision Printing and Publishing Co. ltd to pay usage fees and damages of UGX.400m within seven days from the date of receipt of a legal notice or face Court for infringing on Esagala photo copyrights and skill while executing the photo.

The Lawyers also served Robert Kabushenga, the Chief Executive Officer of The New Vision Printing and Publishing Co.of  instructions to sue should the company fail to pay the above-mentioned sums together with 10% of the said sum as Lawyers’ fees.

The article, published by the Bukedde newspaper on November 25, 2019, was about the unending strikes in universities however the photo was taken by Esagala in 2018.

The Lawyers have directed the  New Vision to respond by paying damages UGX. 400,000,000 within seven days or face infringement lawsuit.
