Today Kenya’s former President Daniel Moi will be laid to rest at his home on Wednesday a week after he was pronounced dead at Nairobi hospital.

The Kenyan government last week announced that Tuesday is designated a public holiday for the memorial service and that he is given a full state funeral with both civilian and military honors.

This makes the second Kenyan president besides President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta to be accorded such a burial.

A full military honor comprises military musical honors, escorting in a gun carriage and a 19 gun-salute.

The body has left Lee Funeral Home for State House from Saturday to Monday for state viewing before being taken in a procession to Nyayo stadium where a state funeral is underway.

At least eleven heads of state and 18 foreign delegations are expected to attend the state funeral.

The 30,000-seat stadium is full to capacity with mourners and sympathizers from all walks of life to pay their last respects to the longest-serving president Kenya has ever had and mourners who have been locked outside are following proceedings from giant screens outside the stadium.

His body will be laid to rest at his home area of Kabarak, 220 kilometers (135 miles) northwest of Nairobi.
