A ferocious fire has on Tuesday morning set ablaze Ham Shopping Centre in downtown Kampala destroying property amounting to millions of shillings ,leaving traders in tears.
The fire that started out at about 5: 30 to 6:00 am is believed to have been instigated by a sewing machine in one of the tailoring shops.
Some of the affected traders who rushed to the scene upon hearing about the huge blaze faulted the police for delaying to send the fire brigade in time to quell the fire.
Kampala metropolitan spokesperson Patrick Onyango says preliminary investigations point to an electric sewing machine that got heated hence sparking off the fire.
The fire later spread to other shops containing clothes and other items.
Onyango says the Police Fire brigade was swift in response and managed to contain the fire in time.
The shopping center is located opposite the new taxi park and Kisenyi Bus Terminal.
He however says investigations are currently underway to establish the cause of the fire.
