The Confederation of African Football has postponed the CHAN tournament that was to be staged in Cameroon following the growing concern of the COVID-19 virus.
This was confirmed at the CAF emergency committee held on Tuesday and decided to suspend the event until further notice.
The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) precurser-the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) was due to begin on 4th April to 25th in Cameroon.
CAF based on the following factors that were put into consideration by the medical committee in its recommendations to the Emergency committee.
Eventhough the situation is considered as being under control in Cameroon as per the advice from World Health Organization, the crisis is not yet stabilized in Africa and it’s very difficult to predict its evaluation in the next few days.
Traveling across the continent is getting increasingly complicated and even impossible for some countries, due to the restrictions put in place by the different governments.
“For all those reasons, and to avoid any useless risk, the medical committees proposal was uninimously postpone the CHAN.”
The emergency committee also confirmed the postponement of the planned executive initially scheduled for 24th April 2020 in Cameroon.
