The Katikiro of  Charles Peter Mayiga has announced that Buganda Kingdom has effectively immediately canceled all social and cultural events indefinitely as directed by the president to avert the spread of COVID-19.

On Wednesday evening the president gave shifting directives on Uganda’s preparedness in handling the COVID-19 outbreak that has since claimed the lives of over 180000 people across the globe and over 400 in Africa.

Speaking to the media on Thursday at the Kingdom headquarters at Bulange Mengo, Mayiga said among the canceled events include the 65th birthday celebrations of the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II which was to happen on April 5, Lukiikos and all sports activities.

They include a Meeting of the Buganda Lukiiko, children’s festival at Lubiri Mengo, LCV chairmen from Buganda,environment and water at Entebbe,  Volleyball tournament, launching of the association for the protection of wildlife and birds in Nabweru, the last funeral rites of the Nabagereka’s, launching of Mmwanyi Terimba campaign in Busujju, Squash Tournament among others.

The Kabaka birthday run that attracts over 50,000 people which according to the directive is too concentrated hence posing serious danger. However, Mayiga urged people to continue buying the marathon kits to wear on April 13 in solidarity with the Kabaka.
