Pastor Augustine YIga of Revival Church Kawaala will spend his Easter holidays in the cold cells of prison after he failed to appear before Mwanga II Magistrate’s Court on Monday 6th of April 2020.

Pastor  Yiga was charged for uttering false information by claiming there is no COVID-19-coronavirus  pandemic in Uganda as claimed by the government, he was denied bail and remanded toKitalya Maximum Security Prison, in Busujju county, Wakiso District, off of the Kampala-Mityana Road and told to appear in court on the 6th of April 2020.

While appearing before the grade one Magistrate Lumunye Timothy at Mwanga II court last week, the 43year old was charged with doing an act likely to spread inflection of disease contrary to section 171b of the penal code act.

Section 171b of the penal code act criminalizes negligence actions that are likely to spread infection of disease. The offense attracts seven years of imprisonment upon conviction.

This Monday afternoon the high court magistrate at Mwanga II court Timothy Lumunye issued his lawyer another production warrant extending the date for his hearing to Thursday the 16th of April 2020.

According to Pastor Yiga’s lawyer, his client was not produced in court by the prison officers with no explanation given despite the demand warrant that was issued asking his client to be produced in court today.
