Parliament has come out to explain the allocation of 10 billion Shillings to itself following criticism from the public on why the huge sum has been given to MPS.
The move has since frustrated Ugandans who have fumed at the Legislators for being selfish calling them names like enemies of the people, especially on social media.
This money stems from 284 billion Shillings supplementary expenses for the COVID-19 intervention.
Parliaments Deputy Director in charge of Corporate and Public Affairs Hellen Kaweesa has come out to clarify what the money is budgeted for.
Kaweesa says that the money is not meant to be shared among the MPs as alleged in the fake news but for an oversight team of Parliament.
She explains that parliament has set up a five-man team to monitor the National Taskforce on COVID-19 who include Arinaitwe Rwakajara, Francis Mwijukye, Esther Anyakun, Bernard Atiku, the Sergeant-at-Arms Ahmed Kagoye and the Parliament Doctor.
Kaweesa says the team will carry out an oversight function on the supplementary funds given and overseeing the implementation countrywide.
She says the task force team will focus on health facilities and implements like protective gear, health workers welfare, porous borders, and relief donations among others.
The supplementary Budget has allocated money to other sectors that include Security, Health, ICT, information and National guidance, Kampala Capital City Authority and Local Government.
