Ugandan musicians a few years ago started a campaign to save Ugandan music. The campaign that was aimed at having our own music on replay rather than foreign music to be specific Nigerian music. This was not successful as international music kept on playing until the campaign vanished and not even the people who started it mentioned it again.
It prompted Ugandan events promoters to continue booking Jamaicans and Nigerians to perform in Uganda. Some of the Nigerians that performed after the campaign was never successful and some of these include Wizkid, Davido, Tekno, Joeboy among others. This year, a new kid on the block Fireboy DML was meant to perform in Uganda but the show was cancelled because of the pandemic.

In a lockdown, new music from Nigeria’s new kid on the block Oxlade has also been put on rotation by Ugandan Djs on their mixtapes that are being shared daily on different social media platforms.
Oxlade whose real names is Ikuforiji Abdulrahman Olaitan made it to Uganda’s DJs playlists with his song Away followed by O2. These are the songs that were released in March this year in a 6 track Extended Play (EP) album. The other songs include Hold On, Kokose and Turn Tables and Mamiwota.
