A total of 9,853 people have been displaced in Nakasongola district after the water levels on Lake Kyoga rose significantly.
The floods have reportedly devastated 29 landing sites and land measuring one kilometer from the shores leaving scores of people displaced.
Also destroyed are Houses, toilets, five schools, boreholes, and crop gardens among others.
Residents who have been left with nothing have now pitched camp at various churches, mosques, schools, and friends’ homes.
James Kwebigira, the LCI Chairman of Kabasombwa village says that about 1,000 people are now residing in two community schools with no food or sanitation facilities.
The residents who are now crying for help from the government and district authorities have expressed fears of contracting waterborne diseases like Cholera.
Sam Kigula the LCV Chairman Nakasongola says that at least 400 people have accepted to return to their home districts but await the lifting of public transport possibly the 4th of June 2020.
