MTN Uganda and Airtel have effective today 26th May 2020 restored mobile money charges for sending Money across similar networks.
This is contained in a joint press statement published by the two telecom giants on the 25th of May 2020.
”The statement partly reads; ”Effective tomorrow 26th May 2020, all MTN mobile money and Airtel money Person to Person ( P2P) transactions on the same network and Mobile Wallet to bank transactions will be gradually re-introduced at a 50% discount to standard tariffs for a period of 30 days”.
But there is an exception on Airtel Money and Momo pay transactions between customers and merchants like a shop or a supermarket that remains free for the next 30 days starting on Tuesday 26th May 2020.
These telecom companies had temporarily suspended the transaction charges at the onset of the COVID-19 lockdown for 30 days to help customers manage during that time.
However as normal business slowly resumes with the ease of private transport, general merchandise shops, Restaurants, and hotels the telecom companies thought it wise to go with the flow.
