The Alliance for National transformation -ANT has written to the Electoral commission -EC disagreeing with the digital mode of campaigns in the revised road up ahead of the 2021 general elections.
During a presser on Monday Morning, the Deputy Spokesperson for the ANT says the biggest population in Uganda cannot access digital devices like phones, Radio, TVs among others.
He noted that this process of campaigns may discriminate against a huge number of electorates who lack access to digital platforms.
Kakaire says there are a number of districts in Uganda that have only one Radio station and 1000 candidates campaigning for different offices which is unrealistic.
He also indicated that the cost of campaigning on these platforms is expensive for majority of the candidates interested in participating in the elections.
He says ANT gave proposes to the electoral commission that includes relaxing on guidelines by having controlled environments like having town hall meetings that are under strict regulations like limited numbers, washing hands/sanitizing, use of facemasks among others.
ANT also proposed to the EC the mandatory use of facemasks that currently being distributed by the government to allow people to interact safely.
