A police officer is being investigated for shooting and badly injuring a man in Kole district while trying to effect at an arrest on Wednesday night.
Michael Angela a resident of Agweng village, Ogwal parish is battling his life at Lira referral hospital after reportedly attacking and threatening police officers who had come to arrest him with a spear and Panga.
Angela is accused of smoking narcotics and battering another resident identified as Godfrey Oduri under unclear circumstances.
Oduri who sustained minor injuries as a result of the beating he suffered in the hands of Angelo run to the local authorities in the village to report the incident.
The Lc1 Agweng village feared to confront Angela for fear that the narcotics would trigger unreasonable action from him, informed the police who stormed his residence in the night.
Micheal Odongo, the North Kyoga police spokesperson says, Angela was locked up in the house, smoking opium by the time Police arrived at his home and asked him to surrender himself.
Odongo explains that an angered Angela later came out armed with a spear and panga he used to attack at police officers prompting them to disarm him.
Two bullets were fired in the process, injuring Angelo in the lower abdomen and on the lower arm.
Odongo says police rushed the suspect to hospital as the investigation continues.
