The Forum for Democratic Change’s (FDC) Presidential Candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat is finally out of police detention at the Kitgum Police post.

Amuriat was blocked from proceeding to Kitgum district by security under the command of Tommy Eyaku the Kitgum District Police Commander (DPC).

The FDC presidential hopeful had started forming crowds of supporters as he cropped out of his car to wave.

Amuriat who was in a convoy of about six rides was stopped by police and asked to follow them to their white pickup truck that was packed about a hundred meters ahead.

Clad in a blue shirt and barefoot, Amuriat steadily walked a distance until the FDCs National Field Coordinator Roland Kaginda caught up with them,  a heated argument broke out between them and police.

Amuriat then tried to resist arrest by walking in the opposite direction but Police first responded by firing teargas to disrupt the crowd that was building up before forcefully dragging him into the back seat of the car.

Amuriat was from Kalongo town council in Agago district where his campaign was frustrated by police on Monday evening for allegedly showing up past 6 pm.

He was intercepted twice at Akura and later at MatiDi Town, in Kitgum district.

Earlier, the police in consultation with the Electoral Commission diverted Amuriat from holding campaigns in Kitgum district where his schedule had collided with that of Museveni.

Amuriat was given a new campaign venue in the neighboring Lamwo District and directed not to pass via Kitgum district.
