Effective Friday 20th November 2020, the military will deploy on the streets across the country alongside police to re-enforce curfew.

Addressing the media on Friday,  Lt. Col. Akiiki also revealed that starting tonight, the UPDF and LDU are going to support the police to strictly enforce the 9 pm-5:30 am curfew orders.

“UPDF and its auxiliary forces shall support the police to now strictly enforce the CURFEW. The public is prior warned not to be on roads after 2100hrs unless you are authorized to” – Lt. Col Akiiki said.

Lt. Col. Akiiki said that the military has also been deployed on all the roads leading to and from Kampala and on all the major roads.

He asserts that people should not be caught on the road beyond the curfew time which is between 9 pm to 6 am.

He says more security is being done with the aim of restoring sanity after 2 days of unrest.

The unrest stems from the arrest of Bobi wine in Luuka district over holding a campaign rally that attracted thousands of his supporters in defiance of the EC guidelines on meeting only 200 persons.

The arrest led to country-wide protests that were marred by looting, burning car tyres, shooting, among others.

So far over 37people have died and scores injured and normalcy hasn’t been restored.

Bobi wine is currently on trial in court on charges of holding unlawful assembly and acts likely to cause the spread of infectious disease.
