Kyotera; The Uganda Prisons Service has in the past week been overwhelmed by inmates who were remanded for instigating the vibrant Free Bobi riots across the country.
Police records state that close to 900 rioters and their ring leaders were busted using CCTV footage, with over 600 charged in courts of law and thrown into jail.
But in Kyotera district, the Magistrates Court has opted to fine the protesters a fee of Ugx150,000 to be free, for those capable of paying.
52 people were charged with unlawful assembly and failure to adhere to the Standard Operation Procedure (SOPs) issued by the Ministry of Health to control the spread of Coronavirus Disease (COVID19).
The Magistrate’s court in Kalisizo town council, Kyotera district has released 29 of the 52 people and ordered them to either pay a fine of Ugx150,000 or be sentenced to 4 months in jail.
The desperate rioters have been forced to vomit the money as compared to being locked away in bedbug-infested cells, without bonking sessions for 4 whole months.
The bloody protests that led to multiple deaths and injuries followed the arrest of Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the National Unity Platform (NUP) leader on November 18, 2019, in Luuka district.
