NRM is mourning the loss of its Flagbearer for Masaka Municipality, Freda Nanziri Kase Mubanda, who was also the current chairperson of the NRM Women’s League in Masaka.

The 76-year-old  also known as Mama Masaka was seeking to be elected as MP Masaka Municipality by the time she died.

She was MP on 9th Parliament but lost in the 2016 elections to Democratic Party’s Mary Babirye Kabanda.

Sources close to the deceased claim she could have succumbed to COVID-19.the

Mubanda had been hospitalized at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi where she was rushed last month after having difficulty breathing, cough, and flue.
“We had started believing that maybe she had contracted Covid19 but tested negative for the virus following virus test,” a close family member said.

Hajj Umar Ssebulime, the Masaka NRM Region Administrative Secretary, says they received the news of their candidate’s death with shock.

This is a great loss for the party in Masaka region and the entire country she has been a strong supporter of the party and a great politician who cannot easily be replaced it’s a big loss for the area,” he said.

Details of her burial will be announced later.
