The freshly appointed Lion of Mogadishu, Deputy Inspector General of Police (IGP), Maj. Gen Paul Lokech officially kicks off with his official duty on Monday.
The Commander on Chief of Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), General Yoweri Museveni appointed Brig Paul Loketch as the new Deputy IGP last week on Wednesday.
“the police force must be made to do its duty of defending Ugandan’s from lawlessness, a threat to life and property, any police persons that does not do this must leave the force, there are thousand ready to replace them,” Museveni said this on the radio while explaining his appointments.
He has replaced Maj Gen Muzeyi Sabiiti who was sent back to the General Headquarters for redeployment.
Sabiiti handed over the office in the morning at the police headquarters, where he described his predecessor as a true patriott.
Lokech is named lion for his contribution in the weakening of Al-Shabaab militants in Somalia while commander of the UPDF contingent between 2011 and 2012.
Maj Gen Lokech has been serving in South Sudan where he was deployed in November 2019 to oversee the South Sudan peace process, assembling, screening, demobilization, and integration of the armed forces of South Sudan.
Maj Gen Lokech has vast experience in leadership, administration, and command.
The president made changes in the army too, alluding to defeating plots by traitors he said worked with foreign backers cause unrest on November 18 and 19 riots after the National Unity Platform (NUP) Presidential Aspirant Robert Kyagulanyi in Luuka district.
The unrest saw hundreds of civilians injured, over 50 dead, and thousands thrown behind bars.
