Furious journalists on Monday morning stormed out of the Uganda Media Center after protesting the indifference by police and security in their plight.
The presser was called to address the state of security in the country in addition to discussing the Tarehe Sita celebrations that happen in January 2021.
It started after Brig. Henry Byekwaso was addressing journalists about the upcoming Tarehe Sita celebrations but seemed not to show any remorse for what happened to 3 of their colleagues injured during NUP’s Robert Kyagulanyi campaigns in greater Masaka on Sunday.
Ashraf Kasirye-Ghetto TV, Daniel Lutaaya NBS, and Ali Mivule NTV were injured while covering Kyagulanyi as police struggled to disperse crowds of his supporters.
A number of journalists raised the matter as a point of concern but were brushed off by Byekwaso.
One of the Journalists, Gabriel Buule at last blatantly spoke, threatening a media blackout on the security forces for not empathizing with their state.
He claimed security operatives have always looked on while journalists are battered and maltreated by security guys for doing their job.
‘‘So long as I don’t interfere with the security of this country, there is a full article in the constitution of this country protecting us, we have a useless media council that takes concern of registering us, people are dying,Buule said.
He also informed the Brig that he cant bonk his young wife anymore as a result of being battered by security guys
”Afande we no longer play sex, that’s important, I was beaten my wife is a 26yer old girl, I no longer play sex because I was beaten by people who were supposed to protect us,” Buule added.
He claims a lack of appreciation and apology from the forces cannot be contained anymore.
”what is wrong when an LDU comes and I present my ID humbly and I tell you, am a journalist, kindly don’t beat me, was made to clean a road at Bwaise, For sure we love you so much, we love this force, but one thing, journalists we are tired , we did not get an apology from our officer, let us walk away, lets sand in solidarity and we go, we shall come back tomorrow, let them reorganize, we shall come back
