The UPDF is gearing up for its prestigious 40th Tarehe Sita anniversary celebrations in February 2021.

Tarehe Sita is celebrated on February 6, every year to mark the National Resistance Army’s first attack on the Kabamba military barracks in Mubende district, President  Yoweri Museveni waged a five-year civil war that brought him to power in January 1986.

Ahead of the big day, the military has launched Tarehe Sita activities in Metropolitan Kampala, which will include sanitation, engineering works, and medical outreaches across Kampala’s five divisions.

The Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Lt Gen Wilson Mbadi says it’s part of the force’s efforts in giving back to the community.

“To celebrate this day, the UPDF has since adopted and customized the tradition of celebrating defense forces’ week and Tarehe Sita on regional rotation basis where it carries out various civil-military cooperation activities intended to recognize, thank and give back as a token of appreciation to the people of Uganda,” Mbadi said during the launch

The launch was graced by Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Beti Kamya, who was the chief guest, and KCCA’s executive director, Dorothy Kisaka, UPDF Senior officers in Kampala, RCCs, Mayors, Councilors at the Kampala Capital City hall.

This year’s Tarehe Sita will run under the theme: “Celebrating UPDF at 40; fruits of the fulfilled partnership of maintaining and consolidating peoples’ security, stability, and prosperity.”

Mbadi believes that the theme portrays the social-economic transformation of Uganda and the capital City, Kampala which has witnessed tremendous growth from just 7 hills to now over  21 hills.
