Ugandans on social media have taken to different platforms and blasted Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas for referring to the first lady of Uganda Hon Janet Museveni as Mama in an official letter .
In an official letter dated 29th January 2021, the highly respected University professor wrote a short proposal to the first lady who also happens to be the Minster of Education requesting for an approval to formalize blended teaching and learning at the University.
Part of the letter reads ” Dear Mama, on behalf of the council and management, I want to thank you most sincerely for your visit to Makerere University this afternoon, and particularly your tour of halls of residence. Mama I wish to brief on a proposal to implement blended teaching and learning for all students”
On seeing the leaked copy of the letter circulating online, a big number of critical Ugandans took it to the Prof for disrespecting Makerere by according the first lady the tile of ‘Mama’ in an official University letter
