Kadaga , Oulanyah To Meet Museveni
As the race for speakership takes shape, the National Resistance Movement -NRM has witnessed a clean split between the incumbent Rebbecca Kadaga and her Deputy Jacob Olulanya over the same position.
Last week Kadaga officially announced her bid to stay as speaker of the parliament amidst ongoing campaigns and endorsements from supporters of both candidates.
The 2 parties have been at loggerheads with Kadaga accusing Oulanyah of chickening out of parliamentary business.
Oulanyah has hit back at Kadaga sayinghe is still awaiting NRM party to make calls for the expression of interest for the speakership job before he can take active engagement in the heated race.
Oulanyah however said he is confident he will win because he is assured of majority support.
Meanwhile, Kadaga has declared that she will not accept the Vice President’s job as a compromise to give up her bid for speaker.
Kadaga , Oulanyah To Meet Museveni
Speaking at a meeting with the Busoga elected members of parliament on Sunday at Hotel Africana in Kampala Kadaga says that she has received an offer from some party members to be Vice President in the new Cabinet.
She however stressed that this is a position she will never accept since it is not a decision making role.
Word reaching us now is that the NRM national chairman Museveni has summoned both parties for a discussion over the same.
Sources at the statehouse claim the meeting that is scheduled for Monday will be mediated by Prime Minister Dr.Ruhakana Rugunda.
In 2016, CEC endorsed Kadaga to stand as a speaker for another 5 years and then hand over the mantle to Oulanyah
However, Kadaga, who has been speaker for 10 years, has trashed those claims and maintains that CEC will have her back as she seeks to retain the hotly contested position.
The NRM Secretary-General, Justine Kasule Lumumba who has recently thrown her weight behind Kadaga has also asked both parties to cease fire.
The NRM will also hold a retreat for the newly elected MPs for the 11th parliament to be held at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi District to discuss the same agenda.
