Christians Flood Lubaga

A dark cloud still hovers around Easter festivities as Christians continue to mourn the passing of the archbishop Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga who was found dead at his residence on Saturday at 9 am.

Though the cause of his death has not yet been established catholic faithful across are morning the loss of a leader they regarded with the high statute.

Lwanga was highly remembered as a very vocal church leader who criticized the government for the arbitrary arrests and abductions of citizens.

He constantly asked that security forces present detained prisoners in court and charge them for criminal activities if any.

According to the burial program released by the Kampala archdiocese, a requiem mass will be held in his honor at the cathedral on Monday 5th April, 2 pm led by the Bishop of Luweero Diocese, Paul Ssemogerere.

Luwero is where the deceased archbishop Lwanga first performed his duties as a Bishop moving as Archbishop of Kampala Diocese.

This will be followed by a 2nd mass at the late Dr.Lwanga’s place of birth in Kyamukadde, at the Lugazi diocese. This will be presided over by Former auxiliary Bishop of Kampala Christoper Kakooza

On Wednesday, April 7th, at 10.00 am, the body will again lie at Lubaga Cathedral for a vigil after a mass in his honor presided over by the Bishop of Masaka Diocese, Bishop Severus Jumba.

The late archbishop will be laid to rest on Thursday,April 8th, at Lubaga cathedral after a requiem mass that happens at 10.00 am presided over by the chairperson of the Uganda episcopal conference, Bishop Joseph Anthony Ziwa .

The body of the late archbishop will not be taken to Luweero Diocese before being elevated to become the Archbishop of Kampala Diocese.

Yesterday during Easter Sunday mass at Lubaga Cathedral leaders who attended the prayers mourned the passing of the archbishop paid their tribute to the late ,describing him as a vocal leader.

The archbishop was pronounced dead on Sunday by Fr Pius Male Ssentumbwe, the Chancellor of Archdiocese of Kampala.

“With deep sorrow, I hereby inform you that our beloved Shepherd, the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, His Grace Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has been called to the house of the Lord. The Archbishop was found dead in his room this morning. We pray that the Almighty and Merciful God may grant him eternal rest,” Fr Ssentumbwe said in a statement on Saturday.

“We condole with all of you sear people of God especially clergy. Religious and lay faithful of Kampala Archdiocese and the Late Archbishop’s family. May the Almighty God strengthen us all in this difficult time.”

Dr Lwanga was last spotted in the public on Good Friday as he took part in this year’s public way of the cross.
