The National Unity Platform -NUP offices remains as silent as a grave as security forces have frustrated a program by the party leadership to hold prayers.
NUP had declared today a National Day of Prayer and fasting for the country to seek God’s intervention to free the country from what it termed as bad governance.
However, since morning security forces cordoned off their Kamwokya based offices and have deployed heavily denying access to anyone .
Army trucks and police cops on patrol are roaming around Kamwokya like flies as businesses around remain closed for fear of violent scenes.
The offices remained dry as a desert with no NUP member daring to show their presence within the precincts of the office.
After hours of waiting the NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, showed up at the offices clad in black tshirt and trouser ,alongside other colleagues,but they cannot access the building.
on Tuesday, Ssenyonyi, revealed to the media that only prayers would take place at the offices and nothing sinister.
Ssenyonyi trashed accusations by security that they were planning to hold a parallel swearing-in ceremony for party leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi wine on Wednesday.
“We believe that our country needs the intervention of the Lord because there is a lot of human rights abuse around the country. People who are being murdered, we have only wicked people ruling over us, so we shall be praying for God’s intervention,” said Ssenyonyi.
Bobwine has always vowed that the outcome of the January 14 polls saying it was not free and fair announced himself the winner of the polls.
In the past few months leading to the function, several groups of people threatened to disrupt the swearing-in ceremony, something the force vowed will not happen.
Army Deputy Spokesman, Col. Deo Akiiki confirmed during a joint security press conference at the Police Headquarters – Naguru on Tuesday that at number of suspects had been taken into custody after initial intelligence reports, linked them to plans to disrupt the Kololo ceremony, and general peace in other parts of the country.
Other sources revealed that at least 70 suspects were taken into custody at different security establishments – including the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence – CMI in Mbuya as well as the Special Investigations Division – SID, Kireka.
