Parliament has on Monday 17th May 2021 started the process of swearing in freshly elected legislators for the 11th parliament.
This swearing-in of elected MP’s started today at the parliamentary building in Kampala and will last 4 days till Thursday this week.
A total of 529 MPs are on the list of legislators to be inaugurated in a phased manner of between 80-132 legislators a day.
Today parliament is witnessing the swearing-in of 132 legislators in alphabetical order until the close of business.
By lunchtime, today 65 out of the 66 MPs who should have taken an oath before lunch time, had been sworn in.
The swearing-in was however done in a back and forth manner as some MP’s on the list to follow the right order had not shown up at the time their names were being readout.
Prominent legislators including Moses Ali Deputy premier, Anita Among, who arrived alongside her confidant, and Budiope East Legislator Moses Magogo, Betty Aol Ochan-Gulu Woman Mp, and LOP, Jimmy Akena among others.
This is the highest number of legislators to be sworn in having moved from 426 to 529 in recent polls.
Parliamentary Avenue has been cut off at Kimathi Avenue, King George VI Street, Siadi Barrie and UBC Roundabout.
Members of Parliament Elect Parliament are accessing the august house through King George VI Street and be dropped off at the Main Gate; their cars will then proceed to the designated parking at National Theatre.
