Public transport operators have decided to make a fortune out of passengers ahead of a lock down.
This follows an address by president Yoweri Museveni directing that effective 10th June 2021,public and private travels to other districts will be halted.
‘All inter-district travel banned except travel within Kampala Metropolitan (Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono).
15. Exemption for Inter-district travel and movement of vehicles are: Cargo trucks,Registered tourist vehicles, Essential and Emergency Services vehicles. ”Museveni said
This announcement has come as an opportunity for dealers in public transport to milk desperate passengers dry.
By start of business today,Bus and taxi operators had unrealistic new fares for people traveling to other districts beyond Kampala metropolitan area.
According to revised transport charts seen by GalaxyWebsite,fares varry from 30 .000 to 80.000 shillings from Kampala.
This has left travelers confused and stranded on the dusty streets of Kampala with no where to go .

Kampala to Fort Portal-shs60k, up from 30k
Kampala to Kasese is now shs 70k up from 45k
Kampala to Kyenjojo – Shs 60K, up from Shs 40k
Kampala to Mubende – Shs 40k, up from Shs25k
Kampala to Bwera is now Shs 60k up from Shs30k
