The rate at which people are suddenly desperate for COVID 19 jabs is alarming.
Police in Entebbe have nabbed a corny 22-year-old man for illegally charging Ugandans UGX 25 k for free Covid -19 Jabs.
The suspect Sebuguzi John is a lab technician attached to Angel Medical facility in Nankulabye .
Deputy Kampala metropolitan police mouthpiece Luke Owoyesigirye says Sebuguzi was intercepted at the offices of the National Medical stores -NMS while administering the Astra Zeneca vaccine to workers there.
Owoyesigirye says that Sebuguzi was selling each jab at twenty five thousand shillings and had already vaccinated a handful of people by the time of his arrest.
He adds that the corny technician was busted with various exhibits including; Astra Zeneca vaccines ,Covid 19 certificates from the ministry of health and injections among others.
Police suspects that Sebuguzi was not working alone but was delegated by other unidentified persons still at large to administer the jabs .
Owoyesigirye says they are still trying to establish the authenticity of the vaccine with the relevant authorities at the Ministry of health.
Covid 19 vaccination was rolled out in March 2021 and the vaccines are supposed to be administered free of charge to the public.
A total of 946.000 Astra Zeneca vaccines were obtained from the COVAX facility courtesy of the Indian Serum institute .
MOH recently launched a mass vaccination campaign at the Kololo ceremonial grounds to cater for remaining vaccines that are soon expiring by July 2021.
This followed a rise in the number of Ugandans seeking to get vaccinated against COVID-19, prompting the health ministry to shift the exercise from its headquarters in Wandegeya to the more spacious Kololo grounds.
