Minister Ikuya Vetted Sick

Parliament has on Wednesday afternoon vetted the newly appointed East African Community Affairs State Minister, Magode Ikuya.

74 -year- old Ikuya however turned up for vetting looking very weak and sick as he was supported by his relatives and comrades.

He could hardly walk or support himself and had to relie on the help of 2 fellow legislators including Geoffrey Ekanya, the Tororo County North MP and Tororo county South MP, Fredrick Angura.

After being vetted by the Appointment’s commitee for a short period of time ,Ikuya told journalists that his health was not in danger but he just fell ill like anyone else.

He defended his condition after receiving unusual stares from persons at parliament saying he has a right to be sick and recover.

”If you fail to be sick, its totally abnormal, you must be sick so that you have something to say,so my age itself demands that I be sick, but at the same time as long as there is a remedy for the sickness, there is no substantive worry, I was worse a few days ago, I could not even move but now am able to move, but am getting better and I am sure that the future will be better for me”Ikuya stated.

Minister Ikuya Turns Up For Vetting Frail And Sick

Ikuya says he intends to use his new position to create change by studying and interacting before action.

What you need to do is interact, the moment you interact you will get to know the issues as they arise and how to resolve them, I have not been an official in government, I have been office-less, for your own information. If my role is confirmed I will have to reconcile myself with this new appointment.”He added.

Ikuya is answerable to former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, who is now the 1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs.

He has served as the Director for Mass mobilization in the then movement secretariat and District Commissioner Mbale. He has been writing a weekly in the government-owned New Vision.
