The much anticipated promise by the Office of the Prime minister for mobile money relief cash outs is finally taking shape.

The government through Prime minister Robinah Nabbanja announced a cash package to help vulnerable Ugandans get through the national lock-down as directed by President Yoweri Museveni.

Following a cabinet meeting that happened on Monday this week ,a list of persons considered vulnerable and eligible for the cash dole out was carefully selected and approved .

Cabinet also zeroed down on Shs .100.000 as the money suitable for the group of beneficiaries in municipalities and major cities across the country.

The government has broken down the relief package to literally include 10kg of beans- shs25000, a bar of soap -shs 3000, 20kg of Posho- sh s40,000, a 3-liter -jerrycan of cooking oil -shs 20,000 and shs20,000 as miscellaneous.

According to Minister for Gender, Betty Amongi the list was chosen based on daily earners and persons most affected by the lock-down.

“Cabinet identified the following categories of vulnerable persons who depend on daily earning and whose lives will be severely affected as a result of the current 42-day lockdown,” Amongi said.

She adds that in this phase of relief distribution, the government is targeting only five hundred households and their family members, totaling about 1 million persons.

The cash transfer shall aim to reach 501,107 households we made an assessment that if each household has 5 family members, we shall have aided over 1 million Ugandans who are stranded in the lockdown,” Amongi said.”

The procedure of distributing will involve compiling the details of vulnerable persons in communities by the Uganda bureau of statistics -UBOS and town agents who will, in turn, present their NIN details that should match the mobile account details.

‘It is proposed that each vulnerable beneficiary household will receive UShs.100,000 net. The government will cater to the withdrawal fees. The proposed cash transfer amount is based on the following Minimum Expenditure.”

“Those whose National Identification Numbers(NINs) don’t correspond with the mobile money account details shall access funds through Post Bank vans.”

The list includes; Barmen, DJs, Musicians, Comedians, Producers, Promoters, Gym workers,Barmaids, Waiters, Waitresses,Bouncers, Restaurant workers, Food vendors in tax, bus parks, and arcades.

It also includes Salon and Massage parlour employees, Teachers and Support staff in in both government and private schools, Car washers, Slum dwellers, Street vendors, Shoe shiners, Orphans and Vulnerable children.

Boda boda riders ,special hire drivers and uber drivers.

Also to benefit are taxi drivers, conductors,touts, Baggage carriers, wheelbarrow pushers, Traffic guides, and loaders in tax and bus parks, stages, and Kikuubo among others.
