Kabaka Mutebi has claimed those questioning Mailo Land System in Buganda have ulterior motives.
Kabaka is concerned about the continued debate on Mailo Land in Buganda by senior government officials which has taken a major position in the media in the country.
Museveni on Mail Land System
President Yoweri Museveni last month during Heroes Day celebrations at Kololo Airstrip opposed to the mailo land system which he says subjects land ownership in Buganda to independent kingdom laws, customs, norms, and values. Museveni said the system needs to undergo reform.
The President then blasted: “It is really very bad and not fair but some people support it. How do you allow these things to happen?”
Mail Land System
Kabaka Mutebi at celebrations to mark his 28 years at the throne, told his subjects that the recent remarks on Mailo Land System are aimed at weakening his Kingdom.
Kabaka charged: “Why do people think accepting other people into Buganda is our weakness? Buganda has never asked to secede from Uganda. Never.”
He went on: “People talking about our land want to weaken us. Why is it that land of other regions is not talked about?”
Kabaka proposed: “We believe through dialogue is only when we can achieve a government of truth for all.”
Buganda’s fighters
He then hailed: “We thank people who have helped us in fighting for our demands and they should not give up.”
In the same breathe, the King castigated: “We condemn those who try to distract us from reminding powers be about our demands.”
Covid-19
The Buganda King hailed the role by Makerere Mbarara University and Gulu in taking up research to find solutions to fight Covid-19.
He also thanked Ugandans for doing everything within their reach to safeguard themselves and others from Covid-19.
The Kabaka Mutebi urged government to increase funding for scientists and researchers trying to find solutions for Covid-19.
He sent condolences to many families that have lost their dear ones to Covid-19.
