Uganda will have three runners in the final of the Tokyo Olympics Men’s 5000m on Friday.

This was confirmed after Joshua Chetegei, Jacob Kiplimo and Oscar Chelimo all qualified through their semi final heats on Tuesday.

Cheptegei (13:30:61) and Kiplimo (13:30:40) finished 4th and 3rd in heat two which was won by Muhammad Katir of Spain (13:30:10) while Paul Chelimo of the USA was second (13:30:15)

Oscar Chelimo had earlier finished 4th in heat one.

Chelimo posted a time of 13:39:07 in a race won by Nicholas Kimeli in a time of 13:38:87.

Canada’s Ahmed Muhamed (13:38:96) and Kincaid William (13:39:04) of the USA finished 3rd and 4th respectively.

The top five in each heat and next five fastest qualified for the finals that will take place at the Olympic stadium on Friday.

Uganda has so far won two medals at the games with Cheptegei winning Silver in the 10000m while Kiplimo bagged Bronze in the same race.

Ronald Musagala, Shida Leni, Kirabo Namutebi, Kathleen Noble Grace, Catherine Nanziri, David Ssemujju, Shadir Musa Bwogi, Ambala Atuhaire, Albert Chemutai, Sarah Chelenget, Esther Chebet, Prisca Chesang, Winnie Nanyondo and Halima Nakaayi have already been eliminated from the Tokyo Olympics for team Uganda.
