Locals in Bweyogerere Division Council have resorted to open defecation and the use of polythene bags to ease themselves for lack of proper sanitary facilities.
This has prompted local authorities in the area to crack down on various households doing the natural business on open ground for fear of exposing the community disease.
So far over 20 households in the Kitto-B ward Bweyogerere division in Kira Municipality have been affected and locals rendered homeless were shut down for the lack of toilets.
The locals confirm that they have now resorted to using polythene bags and open grounds to answer nature’s call because some of the homes were found with filled-up toilets.
The Kitto-B Village chairperson, Godfrey Kaggwa says they decided to conduct an operation after severally warning locals without toilets in vain.
But, Landlords and residents have blamed the problem on the Uganda National Roads Authority-UNRA for issuing them eviction notices.
They claim that since UNRA plans to pave way for a road in the near future, the construction of toilets has become more complicated as they are uncertain where to construct.
The locals also say delayed compensation by UNRA has denied many the chance to vacate the area.
However, others say the vice needs to be stopped because even those with toilets still dump their waste in the public, exposing them to hygiene-related infections.
Bweyogerere Division Health Inspector, Dr. Emmanuel Kaneene says these operations will continue until all residents put up toilet facilities.
He has also trashed claims by locals that they have failed to put toilets because they are waiting for eviction saying it is a lame excuse.
