Shock had gripped police after Deputy Inspector General of Police Major General Paul Lokech died at his home Saturday morning.

Major General Lokech was appointed by President Museveni to replace Mzei Sabitti last year following a shake up in the force.

Police confirmed Major General Lokech dead on their social media handles of Twitter and Facebook.

The Tweet seen by Galaxy FM read: “The IGP with deep sorrow regrets to announce the sudden demise of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Major General Paul Lokech. He passed on from his home this morning. A detailed statement on the cause of death and burial arrangements will be availed in due course.”

IGP Martin Okoth Ochola added: “With deep sorrow I regret to announce the sudden death of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Major General Paul Lokech. I have tasked the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Moses Byaruhanga to carry out postmortem to establish the cause of death.”

Army spokesperson Brigadier Gen. Flavia Byekwaso confirmed: “UPDF fraternity regrets to announce the passing on of the Deputy Inspector General of Police Maj Gen Paul Lokech. More details to follow. May His Soul Rest In Eternal Peace.”

Who is Major General Paul Lokech?

Paul Lokech is a Ugandan senior military officer. 

He’s at the rank of Major General, in the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF). Lokech who’s much known for military service was appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Uganda Police Force on 16 December 2020.

He replaced Maj. Gen Stephen Muzeeyi Sabiiti. Sabiiti was appointed to deputize Martin Okoth Ochola on March 4, 2018, when Museveni sacked the then IGP Gen Edward Kale Kayihura and elevated Ochola who was his deputy to IGP.

Lokech is an eloquent man when he speaks, the reason why he was the media’s best at the time he served as the Commander of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), forces in the heat of the Mogadishu battles.

At the battlefield, Lokech understands situations and takes quick action to avert battlefield disasters. He’s a calm man which according to him helps him to make measured decisions.
