Inauguration: National Unity Platform NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi has accused the state of ‘frustrating’ his travel plans to attend the inauguration of new Zambia President Hakainde Hichilema.
Zambia President Hichilema of the United Party for National Development UPND defeated Edgar Lungu in the recent Presidential election.
Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Wine took to his social media page to share: “Today the people of Zambia are witnessing a day that has eluded most African countries. President @HHichilema takes over from President @EdgarCLung in a peaceful transition. I thank their excellencies for making this possible.”
According to the opposition chief, he was invited by his friend Hichilema’s government to attend his inauguration in Lusaka, Zambia.
A letter seen by Galaxy FM and signed off by the Secretary General of the ruling UPND party, Batuke Menda, stated:
“The office of the secretary general of the United Party for National Development UPND in conjunction with the Presidential inauguration committees requests the presence of your honour to attend and participate in the inauguration of Mr. Hakainde Hichilema as President of the Republic of Zambia, and Mrs. Mutale Nalumanga as Vice President of the Republic of Zambia on Tuesday 24th August 2021 in Lusaka. Secretary general, Batuke Menda.”
Kyagulanyi took his social media pages to send alert the nation on his failed travel for his friend’s inauguration in Lusaka.
He stated: “Last night, I communicated to President Hakainde’s Inauguration Committee and expressed deep regrets for not attending this momentous event, after all efforts to travel to Zambia were frustrated. I’ll issue a detailed statement on this. I remain very grateful for the invitation.”
