Relatives to the deceased Ugandan national who was killed in Rwanda are yet to get closure despite his body being repatriated on Monday.

The relatives who claim their Son was shot for the wrong reason are demanding his family compensated.

The lifeless body of a 26-year-old Justus Kabagambe, alias Kadogo, gunned down in Rwanda 2 weeks ago arrived on Sunday at 6 pm

Kadogo, was killed on August 18, at Kitovu village in the Northern Province of Rwanda, while reportedly smuggling Movit Jelly products, however, Rwandan authorities say he smuggled Waragi aka Kanyanga, instead.

Kadogo, is a resident of Rutare village in Rugaga parish, Kabale district and his remains were handed over to Ugandan authorities at the Katuna border post.

Authorities from both countries examined the body of the deceased and confirmed that he was shot in the ribs and the back.

The relatives insist that Kadogo was smuggling Movit and not Waragi as alleged by Rwandan authorities.

Marie-Chantal Uwanyirigira, the Burera District Mayor for the Northern Province of Rwanda, says the deceased was found with Waragi and resisted arrest.

Uwanyirigira, says he attempted to fight off security officers, prompting his arrest:’‘He was shot dead while smuggling drugs in our country, the drug called Kanyanga, as you know, smuggling and dealing in Kanyanga in our country is not allowed,so he was arrested by security officials and he became aggressive towards them, he was carrying it in plastics and it poured down. ”

However, his relatives demanded to see exhibits of the Waragi but Uwanyirigira said it all poured .

Benon Ndimukaaga, the deceased’s son-in-law who is also the Rutare Village Chairman say they need compensation

;’‘As a family, of course, we have lost a lot, this is a man who has left a widow and 2 children, and 2 other sibilngs he was taking care of,I request the governments to at least compensate and help them with financial support.”

Kabagambe is the 6th Ugandan to be shot dead on allegations of smuggling goods from Uganda ever since Rwandan authorities closed cross border movement.

Rwandan President, Paul Kagame issued a travel advisory to his nationals against traveling to Uganda, saying their safety is not guaranteed.

He accused Ugandan authorities of abducting Rwandan citizens and locking them up in non-designated areas.

Rwanda closed its borders with Uganda on February 27, 2019.
